Colombo and what it has to offer

Some many say that the city of Colombo does not have much to offer other then a bit of shopping and food to try. I am here however to try change your mind about the capital of Srilanka by showing you some of the less known but amazing places to visit within the city.

Some of my top places to visit in Colombo include:

1. viharamahadevi park

This is a nice place to come relax located near the national museum. The park offers horse and pony rides and even a train ride. There is also a small river within the park in which you can take a paddle boat ride. The flowers that grow in the park are spectacular and bloom in the months of march and April.

2. National museum

This is the largest museum in Srilanka and offers many great displays of the ancient history of the island and its culture. Some of the exhibits include the Royal set used by six kings of Srilanka and statues of the Buddha and masks carved by locals from long ago.

3.Gangaramaya Temple

  4. Beira Lake

located in the heart of Colombo the lake is a lovely sight especially at night.

Some of the Best places to eat  on the Island to experience the food

Traveling around Colombo then i recommend  trying some of their delicious fruit drinks served at small stalls surrounding the streets located around the major shopping areas. The drinks are made from some of the freshest tropical fruit you will ever find and they are usually right in season too which makes it taste even better.

Curry Leaf Restaurant

If your looking to try the traditional food of the island then visit Curry leaf restaurant A restaurant renowned for serving up traditional  cuisine. It is located in the Islands capital of Colombo situated in the elegant Hilton Hotel and remains one of the city’s best-kept secrets.

Barefoot Garden Cafe

A relaxing venue to enjoy some sweet and savories along with a good cup of coffee is Barefoot Garden Cafe. An oasis in the heart of Colombo and an ideal venue to relax with friends. Once you are done relaxing you can hit the streets for some of the best shopping Colombo has to offer.

Anoma's Restaurant

A very nice restaurant in Colombo. The food is reasonably priced and provides for all tastes. If your a bit of a picky eater or are traveling with kids I suggest eating here. I remember ordering the, string hoppers and dale an chicken curry. the food came out quick and was nice.

A word of causation, though Srilankan food is delicious it can be spicy at times so i recommend easing into the spicy food and remember to check the hygiene when choosing to ea at local establishments that sell food to locals for cheap especially when eating street food.

Singing  off for another week stay toned to find out about some of the best tourist attractions the island has to offer.
