Beckum
– Small Town Travels
Throughout
my travels into Germany, I went to many places. Every traveler knows of the
major cities in Germany, with their art, history, culture and splendor, and
these locations are not experiences to ever miss out on.
However,
towns like Beckum give insight into a cultural experience of a simpler life
outside the German Urban life that many travellers going through the area focus on.
Beckum
is a small town in the northern
part of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is about 20 km (12 miles) north-east of Hamm and 35 km (22 miles) south-east of Münster. Like many small towns in Germany, it has a rich
history that spans back further than 800 years, and has survived every major
event that Germany has taken part in during its world history.
Apart from it’s rustic charm, and historical
background – Beckum has beautiful parks and forests to explore as well. While
it is not a location for individuals seeking thrills, it does provide an excellent
place to stop, rest and appreciate the calm nature of town and country living.
Expensive wise, the town is AMAZINGLY cheap. It has many great restaurants on offer, many of which have been open for years due to being local favorites. The abundance of ice-cream shops is fantastic, and the quality is unreal.
Shopping is available, but as far as European shopping goes, it is not note-worthy. All in all, Beckum is definitely worth the visit, if only for a couple of days to enjoy the ambiance!
Travel on, Escapists!
